The rooms

Anton

This was once the grandest room at Kolstad Store, and we have tried to recreate this atmosphere. It is named after Anton who ran the farm from 1893. He used this parlor to display prizes and awards he won for excellent horse breeding. This is the only bedroom located on the ground floor and it is available for guests when needed.

Helene
south and east

Find tranquility in this room with spectacular views of the farmland and mountains of Lesja. It gets its name from Helene who was Anton’s second wife. When moving here in 1918, she brought with her grand furniture, a gramophone, and a collection of records. This room has windows facing south and west, a fireplace, double bed, and seating area.

Sigrid
east and morning sun

This is a luxurious room with exposed timber frame walls and a soapstone fireplace. Sigrid was Anton’s aunt and one of many Norwegians that tried their fortune in North America. She moved there in 1868. Look closely and see if you can find the trace she left on the wall: “Sigrid Kolstad 12. Juni 1863”. This room has a double bed, seating group, and ensuite bathroom.

Thorvald
north

This room is named after a highly cherished person at Kolstad Store. Thorvald was Anton’s oldest brother. He lived with older relatives in the municipality of Oppdal and did well in life. We have found several caring letters, poems and songs that he sent to his relatives in Lesja. This room has a cozy atmosphere, a double bed, and eastward facing view.

Mari
north

Mari was Anton’s mother; she was born in 1825 and came from Dovre. Her wedding dress and other clothes are still at the farm today. This room has two single beds, an eastward facing view, and is wallpapered with a copy of an 1890s original design.

Synnøve
facing south

The room is named after Anton and Helene’s eldest daughter, Synnøve, who was born in 1919. She worked as a schoolteacher and was nearly 100 years old when she passed away in 2019. In 2011, she sold Kolstad Store to Aasmund and Anne Marie. This room faces west and has two single beds. Its romantic design features include a light blue ceiling, flower printed wallpaper, and an exposed timber frame wall.

Dr. Husebye
south

Take a time travel back to the 1920s in this room that is named after Dr. Husebye. The doctor had a private practice in Kolstad Store in the early 1920s. We found is elegant bathtub on the farm when we bought it in 2011. The room has a double bed, seating area, and spectacular westward facing views.
